About

I’m an entrepreneur with a knack for bootstrapping. 8 years ago, I moved back into my parents’ home and started working three jobs so I could start my company InCharged - while retaining 100% ownership, operating without debt, using no external funding, and operating with positive cash flow since day one. It hasn’t been easy, but it was my dream to create an opportunity for marketers to reach their audience in a new and innovative way. With InCharged technology, consumers can plug in their mobile devices for a free recharge while the brand that sponsors the charging station can present messaging in a non-obtrusive way. InCharged is a true example of a lean startup, and we’re proud to be one of very few tech companies that is woman- and minority-owned. Now, we’ve moved out of my parents’ garage and expanded into a huge facility with extra space for R&D - we’re the only charging station company that offers super convenient next-day service, and the only ones who design and manufacture our own products in-house right here in the USA - allowing us to quickly create new solutions as a direct result of our customers’ feedback, and pass on cost savings to our clients. One key strategy that sets my company (and me!) apart from others is that instead of competing, we develop mutually beneficial partnerships. Especially as a woman in business, I truly believe all ships rise with the tide and it’s nearly always better to discover opportunities to collaborate rather than compete. So if you’re interested in working together, learning more about how our strategy can help grow you business, or just in need of a strong female mentor - drop me a line and I’d love to connect.

Office culture doesn't stagnate, and there will always be a constant change around how a business operates. Instituting new office procedures and policies as the company culture changes may mean taking some chances. Not all new plans are guaranteed to succeed, and some of them require considerable risk on behalf of the company. If a business isn't sure if a policy or proposal will turn out positively, then its implementation should be weighed carefully. Failure of the policy might mean severe drawbacks to the business as a whole. For entrepreneurs who are looking at instituting new policies, such as, for instance, allowing pets at the office, 13 members of Young Entrepreneur Council examine the core considerations companies should make when evaluating the viability of implementation.

An awkward conversation can be a minefield -- one wrong move could spell disaster. The stakes are even higher within a workplace environment. Since colleagues tend to be in close quarters throughout the day, uncomfortable situations that stem from these difficult conversations can fester and lead to unhappiness for both parties. When dealing with a difficult discussion with a co-worker, it's possible that you will read the situation or tone badly, and snowball the debate into a disastrous exchange. To help you deal with difficult conversations a little easier, eight contributors to Young Entrepreneur Council offer advice on how to deal with these interactions and what things to avoid that could could be detrimental to your future career and prospects.

Entrepreneurs usually don't have enough hours in a day to get everything done. That's the primary reason why prioritizing tasks is a common trait of the most successful business owners. However, many entrepreneurs overlook the importance of hiring great talent to their team and place the priority of hiring new employees way down their list. A business's success, however, depends on how well its employees perform, and that should be reason enough to raise this task up a busy entrepreneur's task list. Below, eight members of Young Entrepreneur Council shed light on how busy business owners can (and should) find time to locate and hire the best talent, without neglecting their other responsibilities.
