About
Carter Reum is the co-founder of M13, a brand development and venture firm that invests in the next generation of great consumer brands through a platform approach. Carter began his career as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs in New York working with brands like Lockheed Martin, Honeywell, and KKR. Upon leaving the investment banking world with the goal of creating "a better way to drink," Carter and his brother, Courtney, built VEEV Spirits, a 70 proof, açaí-infused vodka that became a pioneering artisanal alcohol brand. VEEV expanded into one of the fastest growing independent spirit brands in the country, all the while becoming the world’s first carbon neutral spirit. While growing VEEV, Carter and his brother began investing in emerging businesses, offering their expertise and capital. In April 2016, Carter and Courtney sold their majority stake in VEEV to a leading spirits company, which presented the opportunity to develop M13 and focus on their entrepreneurial stewardship. Today, M13 is invested in 100+ companies across its portfolio, which has included names such as Pinterest, Lyft, Daily Harvest, and Classpass. In addition to his role at M13, Carter is an executive producer and host on the nationally syndicated TV show Hatched where he provides feedback to burgeoning entrepreneurs and helps them not only develop but also launch their ideas. Beyond Carter’s entrepreneurial work, he has a vested interest in shaping the cultural landscape of Los Angeles, as he recently was designated to the LACMA Board of Trustees. Additionally, in July 2017 LA Mayor Eric Garcetti expanded his Entrepreneurs In Residence program by appointing Carter and his brother to the newly-minted Executives In Residence position.
