YEC Event Recap: YEC Founders Lounge @ SXSW 2018

This month, YEC members flocked to Austin, Texas for South by Southwest, an annual conference and festival celebrating the interactive, film and music industries. On March 10, members gathered for our fifth annual #YECSXSW in Moonfire Lounge to enjoy good food, company and conversation as they connected in a private space that the community deemed the YEC Founders Lounge.

During the day, members met in the YEC Founders Lounge, co-hosted by our friends at Prudential and LOOPD by etouches. Prudential built a custom installation for guests to discover their millennial personas and what their lives may look like in 50 years. Additionally, LOOPD by etouches, led by YEC member Brian Friedman, provided attendees with their own wearables that acted as Smart Tag business cards, which made connecting with one another as easy as the touch of a button. Attendees didn't have to worry about exchanging paper business cards that could get lost in the SX chaos. Guests also partook in a Southern-style biscuit brunch to start the day, and a chef-prepared mac and cheese bar as the event progressed into content.

YEC and Prudential held a Better Together startup panel at the lounge that covered the future of the workplace, finance, tech and much more. The panel's foundation was #80YOM (80-Year-Old Millennial), a new study and preventative project that aims to predict the future of millennials and combat various issues for this innovative group. Led by moderator James Dennin of Mic, the discussions featured our wonderful panelists: YEC member Adam Jernigan of Financials OnTap, Chris Penner of Prudential Financial, Debbie Wissel of Ellevest and Carrie Parker of Kantar Futures. Watch the full panel here.

YEC founders Scott Gerber and Ryan Paugh also celebrated the launch of their new book, Superconnector. Superconnector covers how to build, manage and maximize the value of a professional community. SXSW can often be filled with "networking" events -- the team behind YEC aims to be much more than this.

In the evening, members transitioned to the Millennial Party. The evening was hosted by Prudential, LOOPD by etouches and YEC member company SupportNinja, an all-in-one outsourcing solutions company led by Connor Tomkies and Cody McLain. SupportNinja brought a virtual reality fruit ninja game for some interactive fun. Members also enjoyed a slider station, provided by Dagar's Catering, and delicious cocktails served by the hip, future versions of millennials -- who said 80 year olds can't shake up a good cocktail?

Members in attendance included Shama Hyder of The Marketing Zen Group, Tina Wells of Buzz Marketing Group, Brian Friedman of LOOPD, Adam Jernigan of Financials OnTap, Joshua Jeffries of Arkin Youngentob Associates, LLC., Michael Dash of Parallel HR Solutions, Inc., Parveen Panwar of Vidaptiv Inc, Joey Kercher of Air Fresh Marketing, Scott Bailey of MassChallenge, Cam Kashani of COACCEL: The Human Accelerator, Jeremy Kenisky of Merge VR, Eddie Geller of Tinybeans, Nick Haase of Startup Drugz, and many more.
